A brief review / Six questions

next conversation?

Check what is clear and what needs work before approaching an ODM. This reviews the brief—not the engineering, supplier quality or approval to manufacture.

01Product purpose and user

Can you describe who the product is for, what it does and where it operates?

Useful evidence: A short intended-use statement, user workflow and operating environment.

02Critical requirements

Have you separated essential functions and constraints from preferences?

Useful evidence: A brief that distinguishes must-haves, trade-offs and open engineering questions.

03Target markets and responsibilities

Are the intended markets and owners of specialist requirements identified?

Useful evidence: Named target markets, proposed claims and responsibility for compliance or specialist review.

04Quantity and commercial assumptions

Can you distinguish prototype needs, a possible first order and longer-term volume assumptions?

Useful evidence: Indicative quantity ranges, timing priorities and cost assumptions clearly labelled as estimates.

05Engineering and ownership scope

Is it clear what you need the partner to design, manufacture and hand over?

Useful evidence: Responsibilities for design files, firmware, tooling, intellectual property and ongoing support.

06Evidence and acceptance

Have you defined what a sample or next build needs to demonstrate?

Useful evidence: Review questions, acceptance criteria and the person who can approve the next step.
